1. Overview (Project Background)

A Company aimed to accelerate digital transformation and transition to data-driven management to proactively respond to the rapidly growing market following the COVID-19 pandemic. To transform data capabilities into future growth drivers and become a digital leading company in the food ingredient distribution industry through new business opportunities, the company pursued All In Migration and DX as core initiatives.

2. Challenge (Problem Definition)

A Company faced the following major challenges during the cloud migration process and in the existing environment.

• Source Code Management Issues: It was difficult to secure the original source code due to source code management issues with the migration target source code.

• DB Capacity Increase and Performance Degradation: DB capacity increased excessively due to data storing over 10 years of transaction volumes, and performance degradation was a concern during migration due to differences in functions and architecture between Oracle and pgSQL.

3. Solution (Resolution Approach)

MegazoneCloud performed cloud migration with commercial Oracle Exadata cloud migration and Application/DB Modernization as core strategies.

• Source Code Acquisition and Structure Improvement: Source was acquired through decompilation of JAVA and DLL, and then modified. Source was changed to a form suitable for cloud architecture through Business Logic changes.

• DB Modernization and Optimization: Commercial Oracle Exadata (OLTP) was migrated to RDS Oracle 19c and Aurora pgSQL. DB capacity was reduced through data separation and storage architecture.

• Application Modernization and Environment Setup: Weblogic was migrated to Tomcat/Wildfly, and Oracle JDK was migrated to Open JDK. Modernization with AWS Fargate and Dockerizing was applied, and a DevOps environment was built using AWS Code Series and Jenkins.

4. Result (Achievements)

Through successful cloud migration and modernization, the following business achievements were accomplished.

Business Growth Support and Performance Improvement

• Established the foundation to support 20% monthly revenue growth following the COVID-19 pandemic.

• Following the migration, order volume increased by 22% and transactions increased by 55%.

• Through capacity reduction and structural improvement, performance improvement and cloud cost reduction were achieved.

Operational Environment Improvement and Modernization

• Through a cloud-native environment, foundation for four major digital transformation strategies was established, including data literacy, digital collaboration, omnichannel experience, big data platform, and value chain data utilization.

• Unix (IBM AIX) environment was migrated to Amazon Linux and Serverless environment.

• Through source code acquisition, Business Logic changes and structural improvements became possible.
